Creating informed minds and engaged hearts to be more curious, more empathetic, and more human.
“To understand just one life, you have to swallow the universe.”
– Salman Rushdie
To curate weekly reading material for General Paper (GP) which capture the week’s events, stories and issues in easy-to-understand formats.
While the selected resources largely focus on curating GP tuition notes to help JC students build up their content knowledge, they are also designed to be useful and interesting for anyone who is keen not just to know about our world cognitively, but also to engage it at a personal and affective level.
In doing so, it is our hope that all this information becomes knowledge; and that the knowledge goes on to become wisdom.
“Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?”
– T. S. Eliot
Every week, various articles from diverse sources will be chosen to increase the awareness of a wide range of issues and topics for GP students. A summary of the key ideas in the articles will then be provided to help students consolidate their understanding of what they have read plus questions to provoke deeper thought and personal evaluation, much as what we do in our GP tuition lessons. At the same time, useful words, phrases and quotes will be highlighted to boost students’ vocabulary and language skills.
Additionally, there will be a weekly topical focus on a selected GP issue where a longer write-up provides insights and analysis for students who wish to explore the topic further. Some of these will also be discussed in greater depth in our weekly GP tuition classes.
We are always keen to hear what you think about our weekly digests, so do leave your thoughts and comments on our website, or drop us a note at [email protected]!
